Wall, bei Festungen eine Brustwehr von Erde, hinter der sich eine zweite Erdanhäufung, der Wallgang, befindet, ein Raum zum Marschiren der Truppen u. zum Aufstellen der Geschütze. Die Höhe des W.es nach außen ist verschieden und richtet sich nach der Oertlichkeit u. nach dem Zweck, den innern Platz gegen die unmittelbare Einwirkung der Geschütze zu sichern, die innere Höhe des W.es vom W. gang an, also die Höhe der Brustwehr, beträgt gewöhnlich 7', die Dicke der Brustwehr 18–20'. Der die innere Festung zunächst umgebende und stärkste W. heißt der Haupt-W.
