Auf einer Fläche von 1.841 km² leben 53.604 Einwohner (Stand 2001). Sitz der Gemeindeverwaltung ist Port Alfred.[1]
Die Gemeinde ist benannt nach dem höchsten Chief der Xhosa, die das heutige Gemeindegebiet bewohnten. Er war König von 1782 bis 1796. [2]
