Der Newcastle United Jets Football Club ist ein im Jahr 2000 gegründeter australischer Fußballverein aus der Stadt Newcastle. Die Heimspiele des A-League-Teams werden im EnergyAustralia Stadium ausgetragen. 2008 wurden die Jets erstmals Australischer Meister.

Geschichte

Der Klub wurde ursprünglich unter dem Namen „Newcastle United“ bekannt, der Spitzname „Jets“ wurde aber dem Namen hinzugefügt, um Verwechslungen mit dem englischen Premier League Club Newcastle United zu vermeiden.

Der Name „Jets“ ist eine Anspielung auf die RAAF Basis Williamstown, ca. 20 Kilometer nördlich von Newcastle. Das Klublogo zeigt drei F/A-18 Hornets der Royal Australian Air Force.

Newcastle United würde 2000 als Nachfolger des Newcastle Breakers Soccer Club gegründet. Dieser Klub wurde aufgelöst, als der australische Fussballverband die NSL-Lizenz nach der Saison 1999/2000 annullierte.

Die Fangemeinde der Jets ist bekannt als „The Squadron“.
