Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa

Die Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) ist die Vereinigung der Bischofskonferenzen Ostafrikas und deren Koordinierungsorgan der katholischen Bistümer.

Die AMECEA wurde 1961 gegründet. Gründungspräsident war der Erzbischof von Lusaka Adam Kardinal Kozłowiecki SJ. Es ist eines von zehn Mitgliedern des Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM).

Mitglieder der AMECEA sind die Bischofskonferenzen der Länder Äthiopien (1979), Eritrea (1993), Kenia (1961), Malawi (1961), Tansania (1961), Sambia (1961), Sudan (1979), Uganda (1961). Somalia (1995) und Dschibuti (2002) haben Beobachterstatus.

Derzeitiger Vorsitzender ist Tarcisius Gervazio Ziyaye, Erzbischof von Blantyre und Vorsitzender der Bischofskonferenz von Malawi; sein Stellvertreter ist John Kardinal Njue, Erzbischof von Nairobi und Vorsitzender der Kenianischen Bischofskonferenz.
