Der Fachbegriff Propodium wird bei den Schnecken benutzt, um die Form des Schneckenfußes näher zu beschreiben. Er leitet sich aus dem lat. podium = Tritt, Balkon und der Vorsilbe pro = vor ab. Als Propodium bezeichnet man bei den Schnecken den vorderen Teil des Fußes. Dieser Teil kann seitlich oder nach vorne gelappt sein oder sonst eine spezielle Form aufweisen. Die Schnecken der Familie Naticidae (Mondschnecken) oder der Olividae (Olivenschnecken) haben ein großes, gelapptes Propodium, das wie ein Schneeschuh oder Schneepflug zur Fortbewegung auf dem lockeren Sediment benutzt wird. Die Lappen können z. B. über den Kopf gelegt werden und den Kopf der Schnecke fast einhüllen.
