Auseklis

Auseklis (lettisch für Morgenstern) ist ein baltischer Sternengott und Gott der Morgendämmerung.

Auseklis ist der Mondgottheit Méness und der Sonnengöttin Saulė untergeben. Der Überlieferung nach zählt Méness jeden Abend die Sterne. Fehlt der Morgenstern Auseklis, so ist gewiss, dass er im Dienste der Sonne steht. Bei Himmelstrauungen fungiert Auseklis als Begleiter des Brautgefolges. Im himmlischen Bad sorgt er für frisches Wasser, das zur Transpiration erforderlich ist. Das Bad galt bei den Letten als Geburts- und Heilstätte mit außergewöhnlichen Lebenskräften.

In litauischen Sagen ist Auseklis der Bruder der Aušrine, der Göttin der Morgenröte.
