Sandveld

Das Sandveld ist ein schmaler, schwach bevölkerter Landstreifen in Südafrika zwischen der Westküste und dem Swartland, von Hopefield im Süden bis zu Lutzville im Norden. Das Klima und die Vegetation sind denen der Westküste sehr ähnlich, der sandige Boden ist ein Zeichen dafür, dass die gesamte Region einmal einige Meter unter dem Meer lag. Ähnlich dem Namaqualand überziehen im Frühjahr Blütenteppiche das im Sommer braungebrannte Land.

Die Wirtschaft der Region basiert hauptsächlich auf Landwirtschaft (Rinder, Schafe, Weizen und Gemüse). 40 Prozent der südafrikanischen Saat-Kartoffeln werden hier geerntet.[1]
