Bedingung Erster Ordnung, häufig auch englisch: First Order Condition (FOC), ist ein Begriff aus der Mathematik, der vor allem bei Optimierungsproblemen in der Wirtschaftsmathematik verwendet wird.

Die Bedingung Erster Ordnung bezeichnet die notwendige Bedingung für die Existenz eines Maximums (bzw. Minimums), dass nämlich eine Extremstelle vorliegt. Die Extremstellen einer Funktion werden nämlich das „gleich Null setzen“ der ersten Ableitung nach einer endogenen (nicht von außen vorgegebenen) Variable der zu maximierenden Funktion.

Daneben ist auch die Bedingung Zweiter Ordnung, häufig auch englisch: Second Order Condition (SOC) eine notwendige Bedingung für die Existenz eines Maximums (bzw. Minimums): bei der Extremstelle muss es sich auch in der Tat um ein Maximum handeln. Dies ist der Fall, wenn die zweite Ableitung nach derselben Variable kleiner 0 (bzw. größer 0) ist.

Nur beide Bedingungen zusammen stellen eine hinreichende Bedingung für ein Maximum dar.
