Shanghai Baby

Shanghai Baby (上海宝贝) ist ein Roman der chinesischen Autorin Zhou Wei Hui.

In die Schlagzeilen geriet der 1993 veröffentlichte Roman, als er in China wegen der überdeutlichen Darstellung romantischer Szenen verboten wurde und es heute noch ist. Nach seiner Veröffentlichung fand der Roman viele begeisterte Leser, bevor ihn die KP wegen "sexueller Exzesse" verbot, den Verlag vorübergehend schloss und noch existierende Exemplare des Buches einer öffentlichen Bücherverbrennung anheim stellte. Inzwischen wurde das Buch in 31 Sprachen übersetzt und erschien in 45 Ländern.

Im Jahr 2006 wurde in Shanghai und Berlin der gleichnamige Kinofilm mit Schauspielerin Bai Ling als Hauptdarstellerin sowie Katja Riemann in einer Nebenrolle unter der Regie und Produktion von Berengar Pfahl gedreht.
