Unter Slippage (engl.: "verrutschen") versteht man:

  • in der Genetik das Verrutschen der DNA-Polymerase bei der Replikation unter Schlaufenbildung des neusynthetisierten Stranges. Bei der Reparatur wird dann jedoch der Matrizenstrang erweitert, anstatt die Schlaufe herauszuschneiden. Dies geschieht vor allem bei Sequenzen, die aus kleinen Wiederholungseinheiten (Mikrosatelliten-DNA) bestehen, so dass proof-reading-Aktivität (also die Korrektur) nicht mehr möglich ist. Dadurch kann die Anzahl der Wiederholungen verringert, oft jedoch vergrößert werden. Je mehr Wiederholungseinheiten es gibt, desto wahrscheinlicher ist das Ereignis. Dies ist bei der Entstehung von Krankheiten wie zum Beispiel Chorea Huntington oder Fragiles-X-Syndrom von enormer Bedeutung und eine mögliche Entstehungsursache. Nimmt mit der steigenden Wiederholungsanzahl auch der Schweregrad der Krankheit zu, spricht man von Antizipation.
  • im Projektmanagement das Verrutschen und damit Verfehlen eines Meilensteins oder Endtermins
  • im Börsenhandel (Schlupf, Schwund) die Differenz zwischen den veranschlagten und den tatsächlichen Kosten beim Wertpapierkauf (bei Verkäufen analog). Slippage entsteht u.a. durch mangelnde Effizienz bei der Orderdurchführung durch den Broker oder geringe Volatilität.
