„Stars and Stripes Forever“ von John Philip Sousa, 1897
Der amerikanische Militärmarsch Stars and Stripes Forever (dt. Titel: „Unter dem Sternenbanner“) wurde 1896 von John Philip Sousa komponiert und z.T. auch von ihm dirigiert. Es existiert allerdings nur eine Originalaufnahme mit dem Komponisten als Dirigenten.
Er wurde am 11. Dezember 1987 von US-Präsident Ronald Reagan auf Beschluss des Kongresses zum amerikanischen Nationalmarsch erklärt. Auch unter der Zivilbevölkerung der ganzen Welt hat der Marsch einen großen Bekanntheitsgrad. In Deutschland ist er unter anderem durch die Werbung für den Reiniger „Der General“ und das Trinklied Wir trinken das schäumende Bier (Die 3 Besoffskis) bekannt. Nur wenige kennen dabei den Komponisten.
In amerikanischen Varietés und Zirkussen wird dieses Stück nie im regulären Betrieb gespielt, da es als Zeichen für die Alarmierung des Personals genutzt wird, falls eine Evakuierung nötig ist. [1]
