The Battle of the Sexes

The Battle of the Sexes (Deutsch: Der Kampf der Geschlechter) war ein Tennis-Schaukampf zwischen der damals 29-jährigen Billie Jean King und dem 55-jährigen Bobby Riggs am 20. September 1973 im Astrodome in Houston.

Vor 30.492 Zuschauern (der zweitgrößte Zuschauerzahl, die je ein Tennisspiel hatte) gewann Billie Jean King in drei Sätzen (6:4, 6:3, 6:3) gegen den alternden Tennisstar Riggs, der 1939 das Herreneinzel in Wimbledon gewinnen konnte.

Im Mai 2007 wurde in Anlehnung an „The Battle of the Sexes“ in Palma der „Battle of Surfaces“ zwischen Roger Federer und Rafael Nadal durchgeführt.
