Bei der zeitzugeordneten Sprachinterpolation (ZSI, englisch time-assignment speech interpolation, TASI) handelt es sich um ein von Bell Labs entwickeltes dynamisches Frequenzmultiplexverfahren bei dem einem Teilnehmer nur dann ein Kanal zugeordnet wird, wenn er auch tatsächlich spricht.
Hierbei wird die Kanalzuteilung nur in den aktiven Phasen der Kommunikationsbeziehung vorgenommen. In den Ruhephasen erfolgt die Abschaltung des jeweiligen Kanals, um von einem anderen Teilnehmer genutzt zu werden. Wird wieder mit dem Sprechen begonnen, erfolgt eine neue Kanalzuteilung auf einem gerade freien Kanal. Dieses Verfahren erfordert einen hohen Managementaufwand, sowie einen zusätzlichen Transport der aktuellen Kanalbelegungsinformationen.
- Erste praktische Anwendung
Das zweite Transatlantikkabel TAT-2 wurde am 22. September 1959 in Betrieb genommen. Die Anzahl der Sprechkanäle konnte im Frühjahr 1960 durch das TASI-Verfahren von anfänglich 47 auf 87 erhöht werden.
