Baron Bolton, of Bolton Castle im County York, ist ein 1797 geschaffener Titel in der Peerage of Great Britain. Die Barone Bolton sind die Nachkommen und Erben der 1794 ausgestorbenen Dukes of Bolton (Herzöge von Bolton).

Der Titel eines Barons Bolton wurde 1797 verliehen an den Tory Thomas Orde-Powlett, der zuvor als Chief Secretary für Irland, also als zweiter Vertreter der Krone in Irland nach dem Gouverneur, gedient hatte. Als Thomas Orde geboren, heiratete er Jean Mary Browne-Powlett, illegitime Tochter von Charles Powlett, 5. Duke of Bolton, 10. Marquess of Winchester, der 1765 ohne weitere Abkömmlinge starb. Als 1794 auch der Bruder des 5. Dukes, Harry Powlett, 6. Duke of Bolton, 11. Marquess of Winchester, kinderlos starb, erloschen die Linie und der Titel der Dukes of Bolton. Während das Marquessate of Winchester - das älteste in der Peerage of England - und andere nachgeordnete Titel auf entfernte Verwandte der Familie Paulet (Powlett) übergingen, fielen die Besitztümer des Herzogtums, insbesondere die umfangreichen Ländereien, an Thomas Orde "in right of his wife". Thomas Orde fügte deswegen seinem Namen 1795 den Namen Powlett hinzu, so dass die Familie seitdem Orde-Powlett heißt. Zur Erbschaft gehörte neben Hackwood Park, Old Basing und Hamphire das 1399 von Richard Le Scrope errichtete, aus verschiedenen Ritterfilmen bekannte Bolton Castle, das sich in ununterbrochener Folge in den Händen seiner Nachkommen - heute der Lords Bolton - befindet. Bolton Castle ist seit 1674 nicht mehr bewohnt und dient heute touristischen Zwecken, Sitz der Familie ist seitdem Bolton Hall. Die Lords Bolton gehören zu den Großgrundbesitzern Englands.

Thomas Orde-Powletts Sohn William Orde-Powlett, 2. Baron Bolton (1782-1850), war Vertreter von Yarmouth im House of Commons. William George Algar Orde-Powlett, 5. Baron Bolton (1869-1944), war für die Konservativen Mitglied des Parlaments für Richmond und war Lord Lieutenant des North Riding of Yorkshire. Richard William Algar Orde-Powlett, 7. Baron Bolton (1929-2001), ein exzellenter Flintenschütze, doubelte 1967 in dem Bond-Film Casino Royale den Hauptdarsteller David Niven in den Jagdszenen.

Derzeitiger Titelinhaber ist Harry Algar Nigel Orde-Powlett, 8. Baron Bolton (* 1954). Sein ältester Sohn (Heir Apparent) ist The Hon. Captain Thomas Peter Algar Orde-Powlett (* 1979), der als Lieutenant der Irish Guards im Zweiten Golfkrieg das Military Cross verliehen bekam.
