Baron Redesdale, of Redesdale in der Grafschaft Northumberland, ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel, welcher zweimal in der Peerage of the United Kingdom geschaffen wurde. Er wird heute von der Familie Mitford geführt.

Verleihungen

Der Titel wurde erstmals im Jahre 1802 für den Politiker Sir John Freeman-Mitford geschaffen. Dieser war 1801/02 Speaker des House of Commons gewesen, nachdem er zuvor bereits das Amt des Attorney General bekleidet hatte. Der Titel erlosch 1886 mit dem Todes des zweiten Barons, der zuvor zum Earl of Redesdale erhoben war.

Die zweite Verleihung der Würde erfolgte 1902 an einen entfernten Cousin, Algernon Freeman-Mitford. Dieser war lange im diplomatischen Dienst gewesen und hatte dann in der königlichen Bauverwaltung an verantwortlicher Stelle gearbeitet.

Weitere Titel

Der zweite Baron der ersten Verleihung, der Vorsitzender mehrerer Komitees im House of Lords war, wurde 1877 zum Earl of Redesdale erhoben. Auch dieser Titel erlosch mit seinem Tod.

Der jetzige Baron ist im Jahre 2000 als Baron Mitford, of Redesdale in der Grafschaft Northumberland, zum Life Peer erhoben worden, damit er weiter Sitz und Stimme im House of Lords hat.
