Barron County[1] ist ein County im Bundesstaat Wisconsin der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Bei der Volkszählung im Jahr 2010 hatte das County 45.870 Einwohner und eine Bevölkerungsdichte von 20,5 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer. Der Verwaltungssitz (County Seat) ist Barron.

Geografie

Das County liegt im Nordwesten von Wisconsin, ist im Westen etwa 45 km von Minnesota entfernt und hat eine Fläche von 2305 Quadratkilometern, wovon 70 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt an folgende Countys:

Geschichte

Barron County wurde 1859 aus Teilen des Polk County und dem nicht mehr existenten Dallas County gebildet. Benannt wurde es, ebenso wie die Bezirkshauptstadt, nach Henry D. Barron, einem US-amerikanischen Richter und Politiker.

Nach der Volkszählung im Jahr 2000 lebten im Barron County 44.963 Menschen in 17.851 Haushalten. 12.352 Familien lebten im County. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 20 Personen pro Quadratkilometer. Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 97,69 Prozent Weißen, 0,14 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,81 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 0,32 Prozent Asiaten, 0,04 Prozent Bewohnern aus dem pazifischen Inselraum und 0,32 Prozent aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 0,69 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. 0,96 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung, die verschiedenen der genannten Gruppen angehörten.

Von den 17.851 Haushalten hatten 31,3 Prozent Kinder unter 18 Jahren, die mit ihnen zusammen lebten. 56,9 Prozent davon waren verheiratete, zusammenlebende Paare, 8,2 Prozent waren allein erziehende Mütter. 30,8 Prozent waren keine Familien. 25,4 Prozent waren Singlehaushalte und in 12,2 Prozent lebten Menschen mit 65 Jahren oder älter. Die durchschnittliche Haushaltsgröße war 2,48 und die durchschnittliche Familiengröße war 2,97 Personen.

25,3 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 8,1 Prozent zwischen 18 und 24, 26,8 Prozent zwischen 25 und 44, 23,4 Prozent zwischen 45 und 64, und 16,4 Prozent waren 65 Jahre oder älter. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug 39 Jahre. Auf 100 weibliche kamen statistisch 98,2 männliche Personen. [4]
