Die UAE League oder auch Etisalat National League ist die höchste Spielklasse im Fußball in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten. Sie wurde 1973 gegründet und ist heute einer der populärsten und besten Ligen in Asien. Amtierender Meister ist Al-Shabab aus Abu Dhabi. Der Rekordmeister, mit 9 Meisterschaften, ist Al Ain Club, welcher seit 2007 von Winfried Schäfer trainiert wird. Al-Wahda wird seit Dezember 2008 von Josef Hickersberger trainiert. [1]

Als Gastgeberland der FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaften 2009 und 2010 ist der Meister dieser Liga für das Ausscheidungsspiel der Klub-WM qualifiziert, sofern kein Verein aus den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten sich durch den Gewinn der AFC Champions League für dieses Turnier qualifiziert.

Format

Ausgetragen wird die Liga mit 12 Mannschaften, in Hin - und Rückrunde, wobei jede Mannschaft gegeneinander antritt. Die drei bestplatzierten zum Ende einer Saison, plus der Pokalsieger qualifizieren sich für die AFC Champions League. Die beiden letztplatzierten Vereine steigen in die 2. Liga ab.
