Die Universität Southampton (englisch: University of Southampton) ist eine staatliche Universität in der Stadt Southampton an der Südküste Englands. Sie ist Mitglied der prestigeträchtigen Russell-Gruppe und gehört zur den führenden Forschungsuniversitäten Englands. In den Times Higher Education World University Rankings und den QS World University Rankings reiht sich die Universität regelmäßig unter den top 100 Universitäten der Welt ein.

Geschichte

Die Universität Southampton geht auf die 1862 gegründete Hartley Institution zurück. Dieses wurde 1902 zum University College und wurde 1952 zur eigenständigen Universität mit dem Status einer Royal Charter. Vor 1952 wurden die akademischen Grade von der Universität London verliehen.
