Viscount Scarsdale, of Scarsdale in der Grafschaft Derbyshire, ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of the United Kingdom, welcher von der Familie Curzon geführt wird.

Stammsitz der Familie ist Kedleston Hall bei Kedleston in Derbyshire.

Verleihung

Der Titel wurde im Jahre 1911 für den konservativen Politiker und früheren Vizekönig von Indien George Curzon, 1. Baron Curzon geschaffen. Dieser wurde gleichzeitig zum Earl Curzon of Kedleston und Baron Ravensdale, zehn Jahre später dann zum Marquess Curzon of Kedleston erhoben.

Da Curzon keine männlichen Abkömmlinge jedoch drei Töchter hatte, erhielt der Titel Viscount Scarsdale den besonderen Vermerk, dass er auch auf Curzons Vater und dessen männliche Abkömmlinge übergehen könne. Er ging dann bei seinem Tod auf seinen Neffen über.

Nachgeordneter Titel

Der jeweilige Viscount führt den nachgeordneten Titel Baron Scarsdale, of Scarsdale in der Grafschaft Derbyshire. Dieser wurde 1761 für den langjährigen Unterhaus-Abgeordneten Sir Nathaniel Curzon, 5. Baronet geschaffen und gehört zur Peerage of Great Britain.

Weitere Titel

Der Viscount ist außerdem ein Baronet, of Kedleston in der Grafschaft Derbyshire. Dieser 1641 geschaffene Titel gehört zur Baronetage of England. Hinsichtlich einer weiteren Baronetswürde gleichen Namens, die 1636 geschaffen wurde und zur Baronetage of Nova Scotia gehört, ist bislang die Erbfolge auf den jetzigen Viscount nicht nachgewiesen, so dass diese zurzeit ruht.
