Birganj

Birganj (Nepali: वीरगञ्ज Bīrgañj), (Zensus 2001: 112.484 Einwohner) ist eine Grenzstadt im Terai im südlichen Nepal, ca. 190 km westlich von Kathmandu, 2 km nördlich der indischen Grenze und dem Grenzort Raxaul. Sie ist Verwaltungssitz des Parsa-Distriktes und der Narayani-Zone.

Über Birganj laufen ein Großteil der Einfuhren des Landes. Darüber hinaus befinden sich in der Stadt bedeutenden Industrien: Zuckerraffinerie, Zigaretten, Fischzucht.

Wichtigste Bildungseinrichtung ist die Zweigstelle der Tribhuvan Universität auf dem Thakur Ram Multiple Campus.

In der Stadt gesprochene Sprachen sind: Bhojpuri, Nepali, Maithili, Newari, Marwari und Hindi.
