Die AS-13 Kingbolt ist eine taktische sowjetische Abstandswaffe zur Bekämpfung von gepanzerten und verbunkerten Bodenzielen. Sie kann gegen ein großes Spektrum taktischer Ziele, z. B. Flugabwehr, Schiffe, Transporteinrichtungen, Verkehrsanlagen und gebunkerte Anlagen eingesetzt werden. Der GRAU-Index der russischen Streitkräfte lautet Ch-59 Owod.

Entwicklung

Die Entwicklung begann anfangs der 1970er Jahre im staatlichen Konstruktionsbüro Wympel in Moskau. Das System wurde im Jahre 1978 bei den russischen Luftstreitkräften eingeführt. Die AS-13 ist eine sogenannte präzisionsgelenkte Waffe, die für die Bekämpfung von festen bzw. langsamen, strategisch wichtigen Zielen vorgesehenen ist. Aufgrund der Größe können jeweils nur zwei Raketen durch ein Kampfflugzeug zum Einsatz gebracht werden. Für die Übertragung der Bilddaten aus dem Lenkwaffensuchkopf muss das Trägerflugzeug mit einem APK-8 oder APK-9 Datalink-Pod ausgerüstet sein.
