Der Begriff British West Indies bezieht sich auf Territorien in und um die Karibik herum, die von Großbritannien kolonialisiert wurden. Diese Gebiete sind auch als Anglophone Karibik bekannt. Am 3. Januar 1958 vereinten sich alle Gebiete bis auf die British Virgin Islands und die Bahamas zu der Westindischen Föderation. Diese Föderation hatte allerdings nur bis zum 31. Mai 1962 bestand. Viele der Inseln sind heutzutage unabhängige Mitglieder des Commonwealth, einige wiederum sind britisch geblieben.

Cricket

In der Sportart Cricket treten die meisten der oben genannten Staaten und Territorien gemeinsam als West Indies Cricket Team auf und sind eine der zehn „Nationalmannschaften“, die Test Cricket Spiele austragen.
