Bruce Robinson (* 1. Mai 1946 in Broadstairs, Grafschaft Kent, England) ist ein britischer Schauspieler, Drehbuchautor und Regisseur.

Leben

Robinson absolvierte die Londoner Central School of Speech and Drama. Er debütierte als Schauspieler im Film Romeo und Julia (1968) von Franco Zeffirelli. Im Film Tschaikowsky – Genie und Wahnsinn (1970) spielte er neben Richard Chamberlain, im Film Die Geschichte der Adèle H. (1975) von François Truffaut neben Isabelle Adjani.

Für das Drehbuch des Films The Killing Fields – Schreiendes Land (1984) wurde Robinson für die Filmpreise Oscar sowie Golden Globe nominiert und gewann den British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) sowie den Writers Guild of America Award.

Als Drehbuchautor gewann er den Evening Standard British Film Award für den Film Withnail & I (1987), bei dem er auch Regie führte. Für den Film Jennifer 8 (1992) mit Andy Garcia und Uma Thurman gewann er einen Preis des Cognac Festival du Film Policier.

Nach einem längeren Rückzug aus dem Filmgeschäft entstand 2011 sein Film The Rum Diary, eine Hunter-S.-Thompson-Verfilmung mit Johnny Depp in der Hauptrolle.

Robinson ist verheiratet und hat zwei Kinder.
