ANZAC Mounted Division

Die ANZAC Mounted Division (auf Deutsch etwa: Berittene Division des Australisch-Neuseeländischen Armeekorps) war eine berittene Infanterie-Division (Leichte Kavallerie). Sie wurde im März 1916, während des Ersten Weltkrieges in Ägypten gegründet, ausgehend von der Schlacht von Gallipoli, als die australischen und neuseeländischen berittenen Regimenter von Kämpfen als Infanterie zurückkehrten. Für den Rest des Krieges dienten sie im Nahen Osten, auf der Sinai-Halbinsel, Palästina und Syrien.

Der Titel ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) deutet auf die gemischte Zusammensetzung von Australiern und Neuseeländern hin und war wahrscheinlich die erste offizielle Verwendung des Begriffes für diesen Zweck, eher noch als die Bezeichnung für einen Armee-Korps.

Formation

Die Division umfasste drei oder vier berittene Brigaden. Im Kern waren es folgende drei Brigaden:

1. Leichte Kavallerie Brigade

  • 5. Leichte Kavallerie Regiment (Queensland)
  • 6. Leichte Kavallerie Regiment (New South Wales)
  • 7. Leichte Kavallerie Regiment (New South Wales)

  • Berittenes Schützenregiment Auckland
  • Berittenes Schützenregmient Canterbury
  • Berittenes Schützenregiment Wellington

Sanitäter der berittenen Kavallerie

Die 3. Leichte Kavallerie Brigade war während der Sueskrise ebenfalls Teil der Division, bevor sie zur Imperialen Kavallerie Division(Imperial Mounted Division) wechselte (welche anschließend in Australian Mounted Divisionumbenannt wurde). 1917 wurde die 22. Britische (Yeomanry) Kavallerie Brigade zur Division hinzugefügt.
