André Aciman

André Aciman (* 2. Januar 1951 in Alexandria, Ägypten)[1] ist ein Autor und angesehener Professor an der City University of New York, wo er die Geschichte der Literaturtheorie und die Arbeiten von Marcel Proust lehrt. Seine Memoiren, Out of Egypt (1995), gewannen den Whiting Writers' Award. Früher unterrichtete er kreatives Schreiben an der New York University und französische Literatur an der Princeton University. 2009 war Aciman der "Visiting Distinguished Writer" an der Wesleyan University.[2][3][4]

Aciman wurde in Ägypten geboren, in einem französischsprachigem Zuhause, wo die Familienangehörigen auch Italienisch, Griechisch, Arabisch und Ladino sprachen. Seine Familie waren Juden von türkischer und italienischer Abstammung, die sich in Alexandria 1905 niedergelassen hatten. Aciman zog mit seiner Familie im Alter von fünfzehn Jahren nach Italien und im Alter von neunzehn dann nach New York.
