Am 14. August 2009 geriet die Bank im Zuge der weltweiten Finanzkrise in Schwierigkeiten, die Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation stellte sie darauf hin unter Zwangsverwaltung und verkaufte die meisten Vermögenswerte an den Konkurrenten BB&T[1].
