Gedera

Gedera (hebr. גדרה; dtsch. "Hürde", nach Josua 15,36 ein Ort im Stammesgebiet Juda.[1] Gedera – eine Zeit lang auch als Katra bezeichnet – ist eine 1884 in Palästina von Bilu-Pionieren gegründete landwirtschaftliche Kolonie im südlichen Teil der Küstenebene ("Philisterland") etwa auf dem Gebiet des alten Gedera der Hasmonäer-Zeit.

In der Folge entwickelte es sich, lange Zeit unterstützt durch Baron Rothschild und die Chowewe-Zion, zur Stadt mit (2007) 16 700 Einwohnern.

Bedeutsam wurde die dort gelegene Erholungs- und Lungenheilstätte.

Gedera gehört heute zum Zentralbezirk Israels.
