Above the Law

Above the Law sind eine Hip-Hop-Band und wurden im letzten Quartal des Jahres 1987 von Cold 187um (Gregory Hutchinson), KMG the Illustrator (Kevin Dulley), K-Oss (Anthony Stewart) und Go Mack (Arthur Goodman) in Pomona, Kalifornien, gegründet. Sie gelten als Mitbegründer des G-Funk. 1989 wurde ihr erstes Album Livin' Like Hustlers bei Ruthless Records veröffentlicht. Das Album gilt immer noch als Hip-Hop-Klassiker. Die zehn Lieder wurden von Cold 187um, Dr. Dre und Laylaw produziert. Durch die Single Murder Rap gelang der Band der Durchbruch.

Go Mack verließ die Gruppe 1994. Keines ihrer späteren Alben verkaufte sich besonders gut, jedoch wird Above The Law von den Fans vor allem wegen der Texte geschätzt. Ihr Album Uncle Sam´s Curse verkauft sich heute in diversen Auktionshäusern für 50 bis 200 Euro gebraucht pro Vinyl. Grund könnte hierfür sein, dass das Album einen Preis für das Cover Artwork bekommen hat und weil auf der Scheibe Klassiker wie Black Superman und Kalifornia zu hören sind.
