Satna (Hindi: सतना, Satnā) ist eine Stadt im indischen Bundesstaat Madhya Pradesh. Sie hat etwa 280.000 Einwohner (Volkszählung 2011) und ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts Satna. Satna ist ein Zentrum der indischen Baustoffindustrie.[3]

Lage und Verkehr

Mehrere Bundesstaatsschnellstraßen und nationale Schnellstraßen verlaufen durch Satna. So gibt es Anbindung an die längste nationale Schnellstraße NH-7. NH-75 passiert Satna und verbindet Panna und Riva. Der nächstgelegene Flughafen ist in Khajuraho etwa 120 km von Satna entfernt und mit Satna durch die Chatarpur-Satna-Straße verbunden. Satna selbst hat einen kleinen Flugplatz für Sportmaschinen.[4] Im Schienenverkehr liegt der Ort an der stark befahrenen Strecke, die Mumbai und Haora verbindet.

Bildung

Die nächsten Universitäten sind die Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University in Chitrakut und die Awadhesh Pratap Singh University in Riva, die auch Campus in Satna betreibt.

Sehenswertes

Zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Umgebung gehören die nahegelegenen Orte Maihar, Chitrakut, Riva und die etwa 100 Kilometer entfernt gelegenen Tempel von Khajuraho. Das Tulsi-Museum in Ramvam ist ca. 16 km von Satna entfernt und zeigt einzigartige antike Skulpturen aus dieser Gegend. Der Shiva-Tempel in Birsinghpur ist ebenfalls ein historisches Gebäude. Etwa 25 km südöstlich von Nagod liegt die sehenswerte Tempelstätte von Nachna.
