Clarence Irving Lewis

Clarence Irving Lewis (* 12. April 1883 in Stoneham, Massachusetts; † 3. Februar 1964 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) war ein amerikanischer Logiker und Philosoph, der an der Harvard University Philosophie studiert hatte, u.a. bei Josiah Royce.

Er lehrte von 1911 bis 1919 an der University of California, Berkeley und von 1920 bis 1953 an der Harvard University.

1929 verwendete er in seinem Buch Mind and the World Order den Begriff Qualia zum ersten Mal und führte ihn so als philosophischen Fachterminus ein.
