Coelostat

Der Coelostat ist ein Hilfsinstrument in der praktischen Astronomie.

Mittels der zwei beweglichen Spiegel des Coelostaten wird das Licht der Sonne so umgelenkt, dass es immer in ein ortsfest aufgestelltes Beobachtungsgerät fällt. Da man bei dieser Methode nur die zwei Spiegel bewegen muss, sind sehr große Sonnenbeobachtungsanlagen realisierbar. Das eigentliche Beobachtungsgerät (Refraktor oder Reflektor) darf sehr langbrennweitig sein.

Jensch-Coelostat

Eine besonders gelungene Konstruktion stellt der Jensch-Coelostat dar. Dieser nach seinem Erfinder Alfred Jensch benannte Coelostat hat den Vorteil, dass der gesamte Himmel beobachtet werden kann, ohne dass sich die beiden Spiegel gegenseitig abschatten. Die Einstellung von Himmelspositionen in Deklination und Rektaszension ist in gleicher Weise möglich wie bei einer gewöhnlichen Fernrohrmontierung.

Heliostaten und Siderostaten haben die gleiche Aufgabe wie der Coelostat. Da sie jedoch nur mit einem einzigen Spiegel arbeiten, dreht sich das Bild der Sonne in der Brennebene des Beobachtungsgerätes.
