Crowfoot (engl. Krähenfuß oder im Zusammenhang mit dem im amerikanischen abwertenden „crow“ für Neger – eigentlicher Name Isapo-Muxika; * um 1830; † 25. April 1890) war ein Stammeshäuptling der Blackfoot-Indianer (Siksika) in Kanada.

Leben

Zwar war Crowfoot ein Krieger, aber auch daran interessiert, Frieden zwischen den verschiedenen Stämmen zu schaffen. Als die Canadian Pacific Railway beschloss, ihre Hauptverbindungslinie durch das Territorium der Blackfoot zu bauen, überzeugten Verhandlungen mit Albert Lacombe Crowfoot, dies zu gestatten. Der Präsident der Canadian Pacific Railway, William Van Horne, gab ihm aus Dankbarkeit einen lebenslang gültigen Passierschein auf den Strecken der CPR.

1877 zwangen Colonel James Macleod und die Rechte Hand des Gouverneurs, David Liard, Crowfoot und weitere Häuptlinge der Blackfoot zur Unterzeichnung eines Vertrages, der sie zwang, Land an Queen Victoria abzutreten. Im Gegenzug erhielten sie jährliche Zahlungen und ihnen zugewiesene Reservate.

Obwohl er für seinen Mut respektiert wurde, lehnte Crowfoot es ab, 1885 am Nordwest-Aufstand teilzunehmen, da er es für eine verlorene Sache hielt. Er starb 1890 an Tuberkulose. Der Crowfoot Trail, eine Hauptstraße in Calgary, Kanada ist nach ihm benannt.
