Dark Sky Association

Dark Sky Association ist der Name mehrerer nationaler und einer internationalen Organisation, welche sich dem Kampf gegen die Lichtverschmutzung widmen. Insbesondere wird damit die International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) bezeichnet.

International Dark-Sky Association

Die International Dark-Sky Association wurde 1988 in den USA gegründet als eine Vereinigung von Astronomen, deren Ziel eine geringere Lichtverschmutzung durch Verwendung von Beleuchtung mit weniger Abstrahlung himmelwärts - und damit dunklere Himmel - ist. Die IDA hat Partnerorganisationen in zahlreichen anderen Staaten, mit welchen sie enge Verbindungen pflegt. Die IDA führt Forschungsarbeiten als auch Kampagnen im Bereich der Lichtverschmutzung und ihrer Auswirkungen durch. Somit ist die IDA wahrscheinlich die erste und größte Organisation mit diesen Zielen.

Die IDA ist die Dachorganisation für nationale Sektionen in momentan 16 Staaten (unter anderem China, Israel und Argentinien und für Sektionen in den meisten Bundesstaaten der USA und hat Partnerorganisation für Vereinigungen mit denselben oder ähnlichen Zielen[1].

Im April 2007 ernannte die IDA das Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah in den USA zum ersten International Dark Sky Park, um den Park einerseits für seinen Himmel - einen der schwärzesten und reinsten der ganzen USA - auszuzeichnen, als auch um das Engagement für die Bewahrung der natürlichen Dunkelheit in diesem Park auszuzeichnen [2].

Die International Dark Association hat 2010 dem Goldendale Observatory State Park im US-Bundesstaat Washington eine Auszeichnung in Silber verliehen, während Gold an den Clayton Lake State Park (New Mexico) ging. Beide State Parks wurden in die Liste der International Dark Sky Parks aufgenommen.[3][4][5]

Dark-Sky Switzerland

Dark-Sky Switzerland (DSS) ist ein Schweizer Verein und nationale Sektion der IDA. Die DSS ist eine Fachgruppe der Schweizerischen Astronomischen Gesellschaft (SAG) und Mitglied der Schweizerischen Lichtgesellschaft SLG. Der Verein existiert seit 1996 und hat mehrere hundert Mitglieder[6].

Dark Sky Deutschland

Die Fachgruppe Dark Sky ist aus der Vereinigung der Sternfreunde in Deutschland gebildet worden und hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, über die Problematik der Lichtverschmutzung aufzuklären und Denkanstöße zu geben für den Weg zu einem dunkleren Himmeln ohne Komfort- oder Sicherheitsverlust. Sie ist Partnerorganisation der IDA.
