Democratic Media Holdings (DMH) ist eine Verlagsgruppe mit Sitz in Windhoek, Namibia.

Geschichte

Die DMH ging 1991 aus einer Fusion der John Meinert (Pty) Ltd und der Zeitschrift Die Republikein hervor. Initiiert wurde die Fusion von Dirk Mudge, der in früheren Zeiten fest mit der Demokratischen Turnhallenallianz verbunden war.[1]

Darüber hinaus wurde die DMH in ihren Anfangsjahren finanziell von der Demokratischen Turnhallenallianz unterstützt, was zu einer Vielzahl von Streitigkeiten bezüglich der Eigentumsrechte zwischen den beiden Parteien führte und schließlich 1997 in der offiziellen Beendigung der Verbindungen des Medienunternehmens zur Demokratischen Turnhallenallianz gipfelte.

Mittlerweile hält das südafrikanische Medienunternehmen Media24, Teil des international tätigen Medienkonglomerat Naspers, einen 50-prozentigen Anteil an DMH.

Produkte

Zur Mediengruppe der DMH gehören unter anderem die Tageszeitungen Allgemeine Zeitung und die afrikaanse Die Republikein, die Boulevardzeitung Namibian Sun, der Radiosender 99fm, die Druckerei Newsprint Namibia sowie die Onlineportal namlish und TourNamibia.

Zudem ist die DMH seit Mitte 2010 Betreiber des 99fm Playhouse Theatre (ehemals „Warehouse Theatre“) und dazugehöriger Einrichtungen in Windhoek.[2]
