Admiral (Thermometer)

Als Admiral bezeichnet man ein bestimmtes Seewasserthermometer, das vom früheren DHI - heute Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie - für die Erstellung von Wetterdaten an Bord geliefert wurde. Es bestand aus einer Art kleinem Gummieimer mit einem fest montierten Thermometer darin. Dieses Gerät hing an einer entsprechend langen Leine. Mit dem Admiral wurde vom Hauptdeck des fahrenden Schiffes aus zu den festgesetzten Wetterbeobachtungszeiten Seewasser geschöpft und dann die Temperatur abgelesen.
