Der Begriff Domänenparkplatz bezeichnet eine Internetdomäne, deren Name Ähnlichkeiten zu bekannten Domänen aufweist (etwa durch Tippfehler) oder einen allgemeinen Begriff verwendet und fast ausschließlich mit Werbeinhalten gefüllt wird. Es handelt sich somit um eine Methode aus dem Marketing.

Ziele

Die Betreiber von Domänenparkplätzen erhoffen sich durch die Wahl der Domäne eine hohe Besucherzahl und durch die Schaltung von Werbelinks (etwa durch Textanzeigen von Google oder Yahoo) entsprechende Einnahmen durch die Besucher, die auf solche Links klicken.

Professionelles Vorgehen

Unternehmen wie Marchex in den USA und Sedo in Deutschland betreiben mittlerweile eine Vielzahl solcher Seiten. Alleine Marchex soll im Besitz von 200.000 Domänen sein.

Kritik

Für Internetbenutzer sind Domänenparkplätze frustrierend, da außer den Werbeeinblendungen meist kaum Inhalte auf solchen Seiten gefunden werden kann. Dennoch werden die Benutzer durch Suchmaschinenanfragen oder Tippfehler häufig auf solche Seiten geleitet.
