Eicosanoid

Als Eikosanoide, wissenschaftlich Eicosanoide, gemäß der IUPAC-Nomenklatur Icosanoide, werden eine Gruppe von hydrophoben hormonähnlichen Substanzen bezeichnet, die als Immunmodulatoren und Neurotransmitter wirken und an entzündlichen Prozessen im Körper beteiligt sind.

Sie sind alle Produkte des Stoffwechsels von mehrfach ungesättigten Fettsäuren, welche 20 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten (gr. εἴκοσι eikosi, zwanzig).

Es kommen drei Serien von Eicosanoiden vor:

  1. Serie-1 aus Dihomogammalinolensäure (DGLA)
    werden oft als die "guten" Eicosanoide bezeichnet, da sie gegen Entzündung, Schmerzleitung etc. wirken
  2. Serie-2 aus Arachidonsäure (AA)
    werden oft als die "bösen" Eicosanoide bezeichnet, da sie Entzündung, Schmerzleitung etc. verursachen
  3. Serie-3 aus Eicosapentaensäure (EPA)
    zählen ebenfalls zu den "guten" Eicosanoiden

Die einzelnen Vertreter lassen sich in vier unterschiedliche Substanzgruppen unterteilen, die alle über G-Protein-gekoppelte Membranrezeptoren wirken:

  1. Prostaglandine
  2. Prostacyclin
  3. Thromboxane
  4. Leukotriene

Da die ersten drei Substanzgruppen alle von der Prostansäure, einer natürlich nicht vorkommenden Säure, abstammen, werden diese auch als Prostanoide bezeichnet.

Physiologische Funktion

Eikosanoide sind intra- und extrazelluläre Signalstoffe, die von jeder Zelle produziert werden können. Sie sind beteiligt an Prozessen wie z. B. Blutgerinnung, Fieber, Allergie, Entzündung, Schmerz.
