Agrovoc

AGROVOC ist ein mehrsprachiger Thesaurus für den Bereich der Agrarwissenschaften, Forstwirtschaft, Fischerei, Nahrungsmittel und verwandter Gebiete wie Ernährung und Umwelt. Das kontrollierte Vokabular des AGROVOC besteht aus Bezeichnungen und Begriffen in mehreren Sprachen, zwischen denen verschiedene Thesaurus-Relationen (Oberbegriff, Unterbegriff, verwandter Begriff...) bestehen. Die so definierten Begriffe (Deskriptoren) werden zur einheitlichen Indexierung verwendet, um eine gezielte und effiziente Recherche nach relevanten Informationsquellen zu ermöglichen.[1]

AGROVOC wurde von der Ernährungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation FAO und der Europäischen Kommission (Commission of the European Communities, CEC) in den frühen 1980ern entwickelt und herausgegeben. Die etwa dreimonatigen Aktualisierungen stehen ebenso wie der gesamte Thesaurus auf der AGROVOC Website zur Verfügung.

AGROVOC ist in den fünf offiziellen Sprachen der FAO (Englisch, Französisch, Spanisch, Chinesisch und Arabisch) erhältlich; darüber hinaus gibt es momentan Ausgaben in Tschechisch, Portugiesisch, Thailändisch, Japanisch und Slowakisch. Weitere Sprachversionen werden zur Zeit übersetzt oder wurden für frühere Ausgaben erarbeitet, darunter auch Deutsch.

Der AGROVOC ist online in allen verfügbaren Sprachen auf den Seiten der von der FAO publizierten Standards im Agrar-Informationsmanagement zugänglich. Seit kurzem ist der AGROVOC in seinem momentanen Stand auch in deutscher Sprache auf den Seiten der FAO veröffentlicht. Der deutsche AGROVOC umfasst zur Zeit 16.652 Deskriptoren oder Hauptbegriffe und 8.562 Synonyme, Schreibvarianten und andere Nebenbegriffe.
