Fastow

Fastiw (ukrainisch Фастiв; russisch Фастов/Fastow) ist eine Stadt in der Ukraine in der Oblast Kiew mit 50.059 Einwohnern (2006), etwa 64 Kilometer südwestlich von Kiew gelegen.

Erstmals erwähnt wird Fastiw als kleines Städtchen im Jahre 1390. Nach dem Bau der Eisenbahn im Jahre 1870 wurde die Stadt zu einem wichtigen Transportzentrum in westlicher Richtung. In einem Pogrom im Sommer 1919 tötete hier die Weiße Armee im Russischen Bürgerkrieg bei ihrem Vormarsch aus der Don-Region Richtung Moskau 1500 Juden.

Erst 1938 wurde Fastiw als Stadt offiziell anerkannt.
