Grand Unified Theory

Als große vereinheitlichte Theorie oder grand unification theory (GUT) bezeichnet man eine Theorie, die drei der vier bekannten physikalischen Grundkräfte vereinigt, nämlich die starke Wechselwirkung, die schwache Wechselwirkung und die elektromagnetische Kraft.

Man nimmt an, dass diese Grundkräfte zum Zeitpunkt des Urknalls eine einzige Kraft waren, die sich nach der Abkühlung in diese drei bekannten Kräfte aufspaltete. Voraussetzung dazu wäre, dass die starke Kernkraft bei hoher Energie schwächer wird, wohingegen die elektromagnetische Kraft und die schwache Wechselwirkung, die nicht asymptotisch frei sind, bei hoher Energie stärker werden. Bei einer bestimmten, sehr hohen Energie hätten dann alle drei Kräfte die gleiche Stärke und könnten sich als verschiedene Aspekte einer einzigen Kraft erweisen. Die große vereinheitlichte Theorie sagt weiter voraus, dass bei dieser Energie alle Materieteilchen mit Spin 1/2, zum Beispiel Elektronen und Quarks, im Wesentlichen gleich seien, was zu einer weiteren Vereinheitlichung führen würde.[1]

Zustände, in denen diese Kraft erzeugbar wäre, sind praktisch nicht herstellbar, da dazu überdimensionierte Teilchenbeschleuniger konstruiert werden müssten. Eine Möglichkeit, die Existenz einer vereinheitlichten Kraft dennoch zu prüfen, sind Protonenzerfälle, die von allen vereinheitlichten Theorien postuliert werden. Durch den bisher ausgebliebenen Nachweis solcher Zerfälle konnte ein Minimum für die Energie, bei der die Vereinheitlichung auftreten kann, angegeben werden. Sie liegt bei einem YeV (1024 eV = 1 Yotta eV) gleich einer Quadrillion eV gleich einer Billiarde GeV.

Zur vollständigen Beschreibung aller Vorgänge der unbelebten Natur müsste diese Vereinigung auch die vierte Grundkraft, die Gravitation, einbeziehen. Eine solche Theorie, die Quantentheorie und Gravitationstheorie vereint (Quantengravitation), bezeichnet man als „Theory of Everything (TOE)“. Kandidaten sind beispielsweise die Stringtheorie oder vielmehr die Vereinheitlichung der fünf Stringtheorie-Approximationen, die sogenannte M-Theorie, und die Loop-Quantengravitation, die jedoch bisher nur in Ansätzen existieren, und in noch eingeschränkterem Maße die Twistor-Theorie.
