Grande Dame

Grande Dame (aus dem Französischen) bezeichnet eine Bühnengestalt, die eine wohlhabende, welterfahrene Frau verkörpert.

Im kulturellen Leben der Gesellschaft nennt man Grande Dame eine ältere Künstlerin, die vermöge ihrer Lebensleistung, ihres Erfahrungsschatzes und ihrer inspirierenden Dynamik eine eigene Institution und ein unverwechselbarer Charakter geworden ist. Die Grande Dame hat es auf einem bestimmten, abgrenzbaren Gebiet zu erheblicher Prominenz gebracht und Generationen geprägt.

Der Titel der Grande Dame wird von keiner Institution verliehen; die Grande Dame wird nicht gekürt, es sei denn, durch die Hochschätzung der Kollegen und des Publikums.

Grande Dame ist ein weiblicher Titel, das männliches Pendant ist der Grandseigneur.
