Groomer

Groomer ist die englische Bezeichnung für einen Hundefrisör. Sie leitet sich ab von "to groom - pflegen". Der Begriff Groomer wird auch im deutschsprachigen Raum zunehmend verwendet, so gibt es zum Beispiel den Berufsverband der Groomer e.V. und den Bundesverband der Groomer e.V.

Hundefriseure scheren, schneiden und trimmen das Fell verschiedener Hunderassen, so werden zum Beispiel Pudel geschoren und geschnitten, verschiedene Terrier-Rassen mit speziellen Trimm-Messern getrimmt oder Spaniels "gestrippt".

Des Weiteren werden beim Pflegevorgang Augen, Ohren, Gebiss und Krallen/Pfoten des Hundes auf Entzündungen oder Verletzungen kontrolliert bzw. gepflegt, zum Beispiel wird im Winter Hirschtalg oder Vaseline auf die Hundepfoten aufgetragen, da diese sehr streusalzempfindlich sind.

Der Hundefrisör braucht in Deutschland keine Ausbildung, in anderen europäischen Ländern und auch in den USA gibt es staatliche Restriktionen. Ohne Ausbildung und behördliche Genehmigung darf dort kein Hundesalon betrieben werden.
