All the Things You Are ist ein Song aus dem Broadway-Musical ″Very Warm For May″, komponiert von Jerome Kern mit dem Text von Oscar Hammerstein II aus dem Jahr 1939. Er wurde zu einem beliebten Jazz-Standard des Swing und Modern Jazz.

Der Titel

Das modulatorisch anspruchsvolle Thema mit 36 Takten führt durch die entferntesten Tonarten und diente als Improvisationsvorlage für viele Musiker des Bebop wie Charlie Parker, dessen Titel Bird Of Paradise darauf basiert, oder auch der Titel Prince Albert von Kenny Dorham wie auch Charge Account von Red Rodney.

Die Bebop-Musiker veränderten den Titel, wie man es bei vielen Aufführungen hören kann: zum einen die kurze Einführung und der Schluss, welcher Rachmaninoffs Prelude op. 3 no.2 parodiert; andererseits eine Interpolation des Donkey's Song von Ferde Grofés Grand Canyon Suite.

Die Komposition gehörte zum klassischen Repertoire des Bebop und wurde außer den genannten von vielen Musikern des Modern Jazz wie Chet Baker, Clifford Brown, Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Tal Farlow, Erroll Garner, Stan Getz, Johnny Griffin, Lionel Hampton, Hans Koller, Lee Konitz, Charles Mingus,[1] Thelonious Monk, Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, Alexander von Schlippenbach,[2] Bud Shank, Martial Solal, Billy Taylor, Lennie Tristano und Ben Webster eingespielt.
