Heterodont

Heterodontie (Anisodontie) ist die Bezeichnung für das Vorhandensein verschiedenartig ausgebildeter Zahngruppen in einem Gebiss. Dieses ist typisch für Säugetiere, so haben diese meistens Schneidezähne, Eckzähne, Prämolaren und Molaren.

Das Gegenteil der Heterodontie ist die Homodontie, die unter anderem bei vielen Reptilien, aber auch bei Zahnwalen (Unterordnung Odontoceti) vorkommt, da diese die Nahrung nicht in der Mundhöhle bearbeiten, sondern sofort verschlucken.
