Hypernym

In der Linguistik wird mit Hyperonym der Oberbegriff eines Begriffs bezeichnet. Der Unterbegriff eines Begriffs wird als Hyponym bezeichnet.

Beispiel: Obst ist ein Hyperonym von Banane, Tier ist ein Hyperonym von Säugetier, Säugetier ist ein Hyperonym von Hund.

Ein bestimmtes Wort kann je nach Blickrichtung beides sein: So ist Hund Hyponym in Bezug auf Säugetier und Hyperonym in Bezug auf Basset.

Zwischen Hyperonym und Hyponym bestehen weiterhin die folgenden Beziehungen:

  • der Begriffsumfang (Extension) des Hyponyms ist kleiner als der Begriffsumfang des Hyperonyms. Jeder Basset ist ein Hund, aber nicht jeder Hund ist ein Basset.
  • der Begriffsinhalt (Intension) des Hyponyms ist größer als der Begriffsinhalt des Hyperonyms. Das Hyponym hat mindestens ein semantisches Merkmal mehr als das Hyperonym.
  • Die Prädizierung eines Objekts als A (Hyponym) impliziert die Prädizierung des Objekts als B (Hyperonym), aber nicht umgekehrt.

Die Hyperonymie ist eine zentrale semantische Relation in semantischen Netzen, Taxonomien und Thesauri.
