Always on My Mind ist ein Country- und Popsong, geschrieben von Johnny Christopher, Mark James und Wayne Carson Thompson.

Der Song wurde ursprünglich am 12. Juni 1972 von Brenda Lee veröffentlicht, die damit Platz 45 der Countrycharts belegte. International bekannt wurde der Titel durch die Aufnahme von Elvis Presley, der ihn anlässlich der Trennung von seiner Frau Priscilla bereits am 29. März 1972 aufgenommen hatte. Der Song war die B-Seite von Presleys Single Separate Ways und erreichte im November 1972 Platz 16 der Countrycharts.

Willie Nelson nahm den Song 1982 auf, belegte Platz 1 der Countrycharts und erhielt 1983 für seine Interpretation einen Grammy Award für die beste männliche Gesangsdarbietung im Bereich Country. Der Titel wurde in dieser Version im gleichen Jahr ebenfalls mit einem Grammy für den besten Countrysong ausgezeichnet und zum „Song of the Year“ gekürt. Die CMA wählte ihn ebenfalls zum „Song of the Year“ und zur „Single of the Year“.

Die Pet Shop Boys coverten den Song im Jahre 1987 und landeten damit in Deutschland, Großbritannien und der Schweiz auf Platz 1 und in den USA auf Platz 4 der Popcharts.
