Instanton

Instantone sind in Raum und Zeit lokalisierte Solitonlösungen der so genannten Yang-Mills-Gleichungen in der Quantenchromodynamik im Euklidischen Raum. Die Instantonlösungen beschreiben den quantenmechanischen Übergang zwischen den verschiedenen Klassen des Yang-Mills-Vakuums. Sie sollen für die starke Wechselwirkung im niederenergetischen Regime eine große Bedeutung haben.

Instantone sind auch bekannt geworden, weil sie eine Erklärung für eine wichtige Symmetriebrechung in der Natur liefern, die mit der Händigkeit der Teilchen zu tun hat. So können Instantone die Chiralität von Elementarteilchen im Quantenchromodynamik-Vakuum verändern. Die dazugehörige chirale Symmetrie spielt eine zentrale Rolle in der Hadronenphysik.
