Instituto Cervantes
Das Instituto Cervantes [instiˈtuto θerˈβantes] ist ein spanisches Kulturinstitut mit zwei Hauptsitzen in Madrid und Alcalá de Henares. Das nach dem spanischen Autor Miguel de Cervantes benannte Institut hat in Deutschland Niederlassungen in München, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin sowie in Frankfurt am Main. Die gemeinnützige und öffentliche Einrichtung wurde 1991 von der spanischen Regierung ins Leben gerufen mit dem Ziel, die spanische Sprache zu fördern und das Kulturgut aller spanischsprachigen Länder bekannt zu machen und zu pflegen. Derzeit existieren 67 Niederlassungen verteilt auf 40 Ländern in Europa, Nordamerika, Asien, Australien sowie Afrika.
Centro Virtual Cervantes
Das Virtuelle Cervantes-Center wurde im Jahre 1997 eingerichtet und ist ein Referenzzentrum im Internet für die spanische Sprache und Kultur. Im Jahr 2007 hat das Instituto Cervantes eine virtuelle Insel in der 3D-Welt Second Life erstellt. Das Instituto Cervantes arbeitet Hand in Hand mit dem Auswärtigem Amt und ist der Spanischen Botschaft nachgeordnet.
