Interactive Connectivity Establishment

Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) ist eine Methode zur Überwindung von Network Address Translatoren (NAT) für das Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). ICE ist kein neues Protokoll, sondern verwendet bereits existierende Protokolle, wie zum Beispiel Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN, RFC 3489), Traversal Using Relay NAT (TURN) und Realm Specific IP (RSIP) oder notfalls die Nutzung eines Relay-Servers („latching“).

ICE funktioniert unabhängig von der Anzahl und der Art der eingesetzten NATs.

ICE hat derzeit Entwurfsstatus bei der Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
