(7) Iris ist ein Asteroid des Hauptgürtels, der am 13. August 1847 von John Russel Hind als siebter Asteroid entdeckt wurde.
Benannt wurde der Himmelskörper nach Iris, einer Götterbotin aus der griechischen Mythologie.

Iris bewegt sich in einem Abstand von 1,8378 (Perihel) bis 2,9359 (Aphel) astronomischen Einheiten, in 3,6876 Jahren auf einer exzentrischen Bahn um die Sonne. Die Bahn ist 5,5222° gegen die Ekliptik geneigt, die Bahnexzentrizität beträgt 0,23.

Mit einem Durchmesser von 209 km ist Iris einer der größten Asteroiden des Hauptgürtels. Ihre Rotationsperiode beträgt 7 Stunden und 8 Minuten. Iris besitzt eine relativ helle silikatreiche Oberfläche mit einer Albedo von 0,154. Während der Opposition erreicht Iris eine Helligkeit von 8,1 mag und ist damit einer der hellsten Asteroiden am Nachthimmel. Um sie aufzufinden benötigt man allerdings ein Teleskop oder ein lichtstarkes Prismenfernglas.
